Heinrich von Ekkewint

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich von Ekkewint was a mystic and preacher from the first half of the 14th century .

This is probably either the "Brother Heinrich von Ekkewint" documented in 1321 and 1326 , the prior of the Dominican monastery in Regensburg , or the "frater dictus de Ekewinden" documented in 1317 , the prior of the Dominican monastery in Würzburg, or the "frater" documented in 1318 Henricus de Eckebunt "or the " frater Henricus de Hecpont "attested in 1320 .

Sermons

In a manuscript from the second half of the 14th century, four short sermons by the mystic have come down to us in Einsiedeln Monastery . Parallel traditions or parts of the first sermon can also be found in a Basel manuscript from the second half of the 14th century and in a manuscript from the 15th century in St. Gallen . Apparently, however, only the last of the sermons written in Middle High German has survived in its entirety, as the rest of the sermons break off fragmentarily. According to the content, the sermons are to be assigned to mystagogy , since Ekkewint does not speak about his own or other mystical experiences, but rather explains the theoretical foundations of mysticism.
