Heinrich I. von Kerkow
Heinrich von Kerkow OPraem († 1271 / 72 ) was from 1244/45 to 1271/72 Bishop of Havelberg .
Life
Heinrich von Kerkow belonged to the noble family von Kerkow from Brandenburg . He is possibly identical to the canon of the same name mentioned in 1232 of the collegiate monastery St. Nikolaus in Stendal . In 1252 Heinrich, together with the Schwerin bishop Rudolf I, received the order from papal legate Hugo de San Caro to bring the city of Lübeck to the recognition of King Wilhelm , who had left the imperial rights of Lübeck to the Brandenburg margraves. Lübeck complained against the interdict imposed on them, citing Heinrich's proximity to the margraves. Also in 1252 an agreement was reached with the Schwerin bishop about drawing the border between the dioceses of Havelberg and Schwerin. In 1254 Heinrich received the papal commission to settle the unrest that had arisen from the relocation of the Benedictine monastery in Cismar .
Heinrich confirmed the authenticity of the relic of the Holy Blood from the Cistercian monastery of Marienfließ and the miracle of the host from Beelitz . Both places became the center of regional pilgrimages . Towards the end of his tenure, Heinrich finally relocated the episcopal residence to Wittstock , to which he had granted the Stendal town charter in 1248.
