Heinrich von Rheinfelden , first mentioned as a student in Vienna in 1392 and last mentioned on April 11, 1433 as a member of the council in Basel , was a Swiss Dominican . He was buried in the Dominican Convention in Basel.

Life

Heinrich von Rheinfelden gave his first theological lectures at the University of Vienna in 1396 and from 1398 to 1399 .

In 1400 he was the general preacher of the Dominicans of the order province . He received his master's degree in 1401 and was appointed professor in the Dominican monastery in Cologne in 1402 .

In Basel he preached from 1405, together with Johannes Mulberg († 1414), until his departure for Rome , in the autumn of 1405 against the Beguines and Franciscan nuns , although he revoked his allegations against them in the same year.

From November 5, 1414 to April 22, 1418 he took part in the Council of Constance ; there the Great Occidental Schism , which had lasted since 1378, was to be ended and the unity of the church restored. Furthermore, necessary reforms of internal church conditions were negotiated and questions of church proclamation and sacraments were clarified so that heresy could be effectively combated. On April 22, 1418, Pope Martin V ended the council, with the result that three popes were deposed and Martin V was elected, so that the unity of the church should be restored. The reforms of the internal church conditions were only superficially negotiated and the questions about combating heresy were even exacerbated by the breach of the assurance of safe conduct and the burning of the Bohemian rebels Jan Hus and Hieronymus von Prague .

During this time Heinrich von Rheinfelden was accused of homosexual acts against monastery servants in 1416 , perhaps to remove him from Basel as a supporter of the reform party of the Dominican monastery, but despite proven homosexual acts, he was also protected by his order from prosecution by the Grand Council .

Only from 1427 can be proven again in his convent.

As a theology professor, he took part in the Council of Basel and delivered a German sermon on February 25, 1432. The council dealt with the subjects of the end of the heresies ( Hussites ), peace in Christianity and church reform ; it was one of the most important synods of the 15th century.
