Heinz (singer)

Heinz Burt (born July 24, 1942 in Detmold , † April 7, 2000 in Southampton , Hampshire , England ) was an English singer and musician.

Life

After coming to England at the age of seven, he began playing bass guitar with the Tornados in 1960 , which first appeared as the accompaniment group for Billy Fury . They also worked in the recording studio of the music producer Joe Meek . He used the group to realize his ideas of "space music". The resulting instrumental song Telstar (named after the first American television satellite Telstar ) became a super hit in 1962 with over five million records sold .

In 1963 , as he was usually announced, Heinz separated from the Tornados on Meek's initiative and began a solo career. Meek, who had a love affair with Burt, also took care of his new image as “the wildest man of pop”. Heinz - inspired by the film Village of the Damned - dyed his hair platinum blonde and sometimes appeared in tight leather clothes.

The second single in 1963 was to be the greatest success. Just Like Eddie , a tribute to Eddie Cochran and written by songwriter and composer Geoff Goddard , reached number 5 on the UK charts. The LP Tribute To Eddie reached number 12 on the LP charts in 1964.

Heinz's group, the Outlaws , included Chas Hodges , Mike Berry and Mick Underwood . Ritchie Blackmore , who was also employed by Meek at the time, played the lead guitar.

In 1966, Heinz separated from Meek, who shot himself on February 3, 1967 after he had previously shot his landlady in a dispute. Heinz starred in several TV series and pop films, and in 1971 the newly formed fun rock blues band Dr. Feelgood his new backing band for a short time. In 1973 he played himself in the revue "The London Rock'n'Roll Show" and in 1991 in the English television documentary "The Strange Story of Joe Meek".

Burt was married twice and his 15-year marriage to Della Burke resulted in a son, Simon Burt. Heinz later developed motor neuron disease , spent some time in a wheelchair and died in April 2000.

His hometown Eastleigh named a street after him ("Heinz Burt Close").
