Heinz Bühler (musician)

Heinz Bühler (born August 6, 1941 in Thalwil ; † January 19, 2020 ) was a Swiss jazz musician ( trumpet ).

Live and act

Bühler started playing the trumpet at the age of 14. He made his first recordings at the age of 17 with the St. Josephs Advertising Artists Orchestra and the Robert Frei Quartet . Between 1956 and 1959 he belonged to the teachers training college band with the brothers Hans (bass), Ueli (piano) and Ernst Gerber (saxophone) . During his studies he played with The Nameless in Zurich between 1960 and 1964 ; With this student formation, there was a record production in 1961 (on its own label). He was also a member of the Harlem Ramblers from 1962 to 1969 , who performed weekly in the Zurich jazz café Africana , and later in the Casa Bar . He was honored several times at the Jazz Festival Zurich between 1963 and 1967 as the best "old style trumpeter".

In 1969 Bühler co-founded the New Harlem Ramblers , which also gave concerts with Albert Nicholas , Bill Coleman , Henri Chaix and Benny Waters . With the currently existing band, which also appeared at the Warsaw Jazz Jamboree , he played albums such as 1988 Ain't She Sweet! for Elite and 1994 As Time Goes by one. Since 1988 he has also been a member of Buddha's Gamblers , with whom he released several albums and appeared at the International Dixieland Festival Dresden in 2002 .

In 2012 he replaced Hans Zurbrügg as trumpeter in the Wolverines Jazz Band of Bern ; since 2016 he has also belonged to the belly nuffy stompers . He can also be seen on albums by the Old Rivertown Jazz Band and on a TV production with the Black Forest Jazz Band in 2001 for SWR .
