Heinz Bürgel

Heinz Bürgel (born November 12, 1918 in Cuxhaven ; † June 30, 1983 ) was a German diplomat . From 1973 to 1975 he was the first ambassador of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) to the Yemeni Arab Republic (JAR).

Life

In the first post-war years, Bürgel was initially an employee of the Ministry of Trade and Supply of the State of Saxony . He studied from 1949 to 1950 at the German Administration Academy . In 1954 he headed the press office of the Berlin magistrate. From 1955 to 1961 he was department head in the Chamber for Foreign Trade of the GDR. In 1962/63 he studied at the Berlin School of Economics and obtained his diploma ("The formation of mixed chambers as a means for expanding peaceful trade relations between the GDR and the capitalist economic area"). From 1963 Bürgel worked primarily in the diplomatic service, until 1967 as a commercial counselor and deputy general consul at the GDR consulate in the Yemeni Arab Republic in Sanaa .

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the GDR in October 1964, Bürgel gave a reception in Sanaa, attended by Vice President Amary, Deputy Prime Minister Eriany, Defense Minister Dafel, Minister for Security, Abdul Waser, and the Deputy Minister for Post and Telecommunications, for heart and for work participated.

Between 1967 and 1973 Bürgel worked as a research assistant in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR . After the GDR and the JAR had established full diplomatic relations in December 1972, Bürgel was appointed the GDR's ambassador to the JAR on July 6, 1973 by the chairman of the GDR State Council, Walter Ulbricht . On July 18, Bürgel presented his credentials to the chairman of the JAR Presidential Council, Abdul Rahman al-Iriani . Bürgel remained ambassador to the JAR until 1975. He then worked as a department head in the State Secretariat for Vocational Training in the GDR.

Bürgel was a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). He died at the age of 64 and was buried in the Berlin cemetery, Rudower Straße 23.
