Demonic Resurrection is a Black - / death metal - band from India .

history

Demonic Resurrection was founded in 2000 in Mumbai ( Marathi : मुंबई , Mumbaī [ ˈmumbəi ]), until 1996 officially in Bombay , the capital of the state of Maharashtra in India , by singer and guitarist Sahil "The Demonstealer" Makhija, who at that time - just like his colleague at the time - was 17 years old. After just nine months, the young band released their first musical sign of life with the demo Demonstealer . After the band re-recorded the demo, it was released on tape in Brazil via Vampiria Records .

Various line-up changes led to the fact that four years passed by the debut album A Darkness Descends , which was released via Demonstealer Records in 2005 . From the conceptual content, a content-related trilogy developed over the next few years, which was continued in 2007 with the EP Beyond the Darkness and ended in 2010 with the second album The Return to Darkness . For the latter work, the Indians signed a contract with Candlelight Records , the music label of the former Extreme Noise Terror bassist Lee Barrett, which opened up a relevant distribution channel outside the Indian subcontinent for the first time.

In the same year as the first EP, the cross-border split CD Rise of the Eastern Blood was released . a. the Pakistani band Dusk and Severe Dementia from Bangladesh were involved.

After a total of four years with only touring activities, the third album The Demon King was released in 2014 ; it was released in India, Europe and the USA between July 13th and 15th, 2014. Universal Music was responsible for sales in the home country, and Candlelight Records in the other two regions .

When the fourth album Dashavatar was released in the summer of 2017 after a three-year break , sales overtook those of One Direction within a month . Only Linkin Park did better. In conjunction with nearly 90,000 fans in the meantime confirm Facebook page called the Indian industry service radio and music business Demonic Resurrection as "unquestionably one of the most popular metal bands of the country" ( English undeniably one of the most popular metal bands in the country ).

Demonic Resurrection played their first concert on European soil - and their first ever concert outside of India - in 2010 at the renowned Inferno Metal Festival in Norway . Later followed u. a. Performances at the Wacken Open Air (2014, 2017) and at the British Sonisphere Festival .

style

At the time of their first demo recording, The Gathering , Lacuna Coil and Theater of Tragedy were still influences. With the entry of a keyboardist and a death-metal-heavy drummer in 2003, the sound changed in a more symphonic and heavier direction at the same time. Since then, new band members have always brought new influences into the band's sound. In a review of the 2010 album The Return to Darkness , the band was described as “a symphonic-heady melange of Emperor , Bal-Sagoth , Diabolical Masquerade , Cradle of Filth , Dimmu Borgir and also removed Dissection and Mörk Gryning ” with “a lot of melodic Death Metal and massive epic heavy metal ”. The band currently describes their style as "Blackened Death Metal". In the review of the latest album Dashavatar , a reviewer described the style as "Symphonic Blackened Death".

Awards

In Global Metal , the second documentary of Canadian cultural anthropologist Sam Dunn , Sahil "The Demonstealer" Makhija was among the interviewees. The band could also be heard on the complementary released soundtrack.

In 2010 the band received the award in the Global Metal category at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards . The awards ceremony took place in London indigO2 , a smaller venue in The O2 event hall .

In 2010, the video for The Unrelenting Surge of Vengeance was broadcast on a national TV station .

Others

When asked why he gave himself the name "The Demonstealer" as a pseudonym, Sahil Makhija replied:

"I was a young 16-year-old kid into metal and heavily into black metal where most musicians had a stage name. I decided I needed one too and since I was not well versed in mythology or Lord Of The Rings, I could only come up with Demonstealer, which was less cheesy than Demonslayer. "
