Heinz Bothe (born October 4, 1927 in Hanover ; † February 23, 2017 ) was a German football player .

The middle runner stood in 1954 with Hannover 96 in the final of the German championship , which the North Germans won 5-1 against the highly favored 1. FC Kaiserslautern . Bothe was one of the guarantees that the “Red Devils” only managed one goal in this game. The press called the defense chief "solid as a rock", the then 96 goalkeeper Hans Krämer said of him: "Unbeatable in a header and in a duel."

Heinz Bothe never changed clubs in his career. At the age of 16 he was in the 1st team of Hannover 96 for the first time in 1944. By 1958, when he had to end his career because of a knee injury, he made 252 league appearances. Between 1947 and 1958 he played 235 appearances in the Oberliga Nord, in which he scored 1 goal. He was also used in 12 final rounds of the German soccer championship. He was also used in the DFB club cup . He was also appointed several times in the Lower Saxony and Northwest German selections. To this day (as of 2010) Bothe is the Reds' record player.

After his career, Heinz Bothe became self-employed as a vending machine dealer. He remained loyal to Hannover 96 and was a member of the board of directors in the 1970s. With personal guarantees, the elected members of the committee saved the then highly indebted club from bankruptcy. Heinz Bothe last lived as a pensioner in Hanover .
