Heinz Fankhänel

Heinz Fankhänel (born June 9, 1927 in Chemnitz ; † November 5, 1995 in Eberswalde ) was a German entomologist and university professor .

Life

Fankhänel attended elementary school in Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. , followed by high school in Stollberg / Erzgebirge . In the last months of the Second World War, Fankhänel was called up and taken into Soviet captivity from which he was released in 1945.

After his release, Fankhänel began a teacher training course and works as a new teacher . In 1947 he began studying biology at the University of Leipzig , which he successfully completed in 1952. In 1956, Fankhänel completed his doctorate at the Biology and Soil Science Faculty of the "Mikhail-Wassiljewitsch-Lomonossow" University in Moscow . In 1971 Fankhänel was appointed professor for applied entomology and plant protection at the University of Leipzig. He held the professorship until 1974. Further teaching activities followed, including a. at the Instituto Investigaciones Tropicales in Havana , Cuba and at the University of Agriculture in Alemaya, Ethiopia.
