Athletic career

When the newly founded soccer league of the German Sports Committee (later GDR Oberliga ) started playing in the Soviet occupation zone in the 1949/50 season, ZSG Anker Wismar was one of the 14 participating teams. Your coach was Heinz Hartmann, 41 years old at the start of the season. This did not succeed in saving the quarter-finalists of the previous soccer east zone championship in 1949 , who at that time was still running as SG Wismar Süd, from relegation from the DS league. With the numerically small squad Hartmann had to help out as a player even in a point game. In the 1950/51 season, the ZSG entered the new second-class DS league. The first league was now called the Oberliga, and the second league was later called the GDR League . Hartmann brought the ZSG Anker to second place by the end of the season, tied with the first in the table SG Volkspolizei Potsdam . In this case, a playoff for promotion to the league was planned, which the Wismar won 2-1. The Ostseestädter were thus able to go into their second league season in 1951/52, which they completed as a company sports association (BSG) Motor after changing the sponsoring companies . Even in the second attempt, still with coach Hartmann, the league did not succeed. As 17th among 19 teams, the BSG had to relegate again to the GDR league. Heinz Hartmann tried again in the 1952/53 season to help his team get promoted again. He jumped in as a player for one game day. A second place was achieved again, but this time the season winner BSG Einheit Ost Leipzig had six more points on the account, so that Wismar had to remain in the second division. Then Hartmann was replaced by Oswald Pfau in the 1953/54 season .

Heinz Hartmann moved within the GDR league to BSG Chemie Karl-Marx-Stadt, with which he was promoted to the league in 1953/54. In the league season 1954/55 he made 6th place with the Karl-Marx-Städtern as the best BSG team up to the 19th matchday. On March 1, 1955, Hartmann was replaced by the new coach Heinz Pönert .
