Heinz Heigl

Heinz Heigl (born November 26, 1901 in the Bohemian Forest ; † April 20, 1987 in Duddenhausen ) was a German athlete and trainer. He is the founder of the Heigl conditioning therapy method .

Life

Heinz Heigl was an officer and instructor at the Army Sports School in Wünsdorf , where he trained the German Olympic team in modern pentathlon . One member of this team, Gotthard Handrick , won a gold medal in 1936 .

From 1945 to 1950 Heigl was a Soviet prisoner of war . There he met a Japanese colonel, from whom he took over the daily physical training.

In Damascus and Beirut he held diplomatic duties from 1950 to 1963 . He set up a sports school in Syria .

After returning to Germany in 1963, he and his wife Irmhild settled in Duddenhausen, a district of the town of Bücken in Lower Saxony . He lived there until his death in 1987. During this time he devoted himself to modern physical training and developed the Heigl conditioning therapy method , which is also known as Heigln .

The principles of therapy are: the exercises should be easy to learn and easy, i. H. It should also be feasible for the sick, the exercises should be carried out outdoors and "on natural ground", tension and relaxation should alternate, whereby "harmonious breathing" should be ensured. The movement units consist of stretching, stretching, swinging, running and relaxation exercises, which should be carried out in a group if possible. The therapy is carried out by a registered association that trains teachers in this form of therapy under the name of Bewegungsuingstraining Methode Heigl e. V. continued. A large part of his estate is in the archive of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History .

Honors

After Heigl's death, his wife was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon for their common services .
