Heinz Herrmann (born May 14, 1938 ) is a former German soccer player. For SC Lokomotive Leipzig and BSG Chemie Leipzig , he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Career

At the age of twelve, Heinz Herrmann began playing soccer in Lindenau at Progress West Leipzig . Three years later, the versatile footballer, who was used both as a stopper and a striker, joined the youth team at BSG Chemie Miltitz . In 1956 Herrmann went to SC Lokomotive Leipzig. There he rose to the league team after a year in the reserve. Since then, coach Alfred Kunze has used him as a full-back. In 1963, the defender was classified as not worthy of support and therefore assigned to the BSG Chemie , the so-called rest of Leipzig. In the championship season 1963/64, "Manne", as he was called by his teammates, played 23 of the 26 point games. Two years later he won the FDGB Cup with the club from Leutzsch . In 1971 , Herrmann was relegated to the soccer league with BSG Chemie , but the Leipziger managed to rise again immediately in the following season . When the squad for the new season was announced, Heinz Herrmann was not one of them. Rumor has it that his brother's escape almost 20 years ago was the reason for the disregard. The 1-0 win at TSG Wismar , which secured the Leutzschern the right to play for the upcoming league season, was the full-back's last competitive game for the first team. After a season in the reserve, Heinz Herrmann moved to Turbine Leipzig, after a few years as a player-coach and later in the old men’s team, the defender ended his career in 1978.
