Heinz Hirdina

Heinz Hirdina (born March 5, 1942 ; † December 19, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German design theorist and publicist .

Life

Heinz Hirdina studied philosophy and cultural studies in Jena , Leipzig and Berlin from 1961 to 1966 . Until 1968 he worked as an editor for the newspaper " Sonntag " and for the Aufbau-Verlag , Berlin. This was followed by collaboration on the design magazine form + Zweck until 1972 , from 1973 to 1979 as its editor-in-chief. From 1980 to 1986 he was responsible for the editing of the design publications at Dresden Verlag der Kunst . After receiving his doctorate in 1973, he completed his habilitation in 1988 and from 1987 worked as a lecturer at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . In 1993 he was offered the chair for Theory and History of Design, which he held until 2005. Heinz Hirdina was married to the art and literary scholar Karin Hirdina . The estate of Karin and Heinz Hirdina, with a focus on the history of the Bauhaus in East Germany between 1945 and 1989 , is in the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation .
