Heinz Lingenberg

Heinz Lingenberg (born June 3, 1927 in Danzig -Langfuhr, † November 25, 1996 in Kiel ) was a German historian .

Life

After his school days in Gdansk Lingenberg enrolled at the Technical University of Gdansk , but was then called up for military service and was taken prisoner. Afterwards he finished his studies for the higher teaching post at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel , later taught at the Johanneum zu Lübeck , but retired in 1978 for health reasons.

He then took up an intensive scientific activity, received his doctorate in Kiel in 1979 and published four books and numerous articles until his death, primarily on the history of Olivas and Danzig and the cartography of Danzig and West Prussia . Among other things, he discovered the oldest source of Oliva history and was able to re-date the founding of the local monastery .

Lingenberg was particularly concerned with the appreciation of Polish historical research and the understanding of neighboring peoples. For his work he was awarded the Gdansk Culture Prize in 1984. Since 1983 he was a member of the Historical Commission for East and West Prussian State Research .

His brother was the mathematician Rolf Lingenberg .
