Heinz Menzel

Heinz Menzel (born January 22, 1926 in Kunzendorf , district of Schweidnitz , † September 18, 2000 in Gelsenkirchen-Hassel ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending primary school, Menzel completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker from 1940 to 1943. He then took part in World War II as a soldier until 1945 and was finally taken prisoner, from which he was released in 1946.

Menzel worked as a miner underground from 1946 to 1960. In 1957/58 he continued his education at the Dortmund Social Academy , from 1960 to 1986 he was secretary of the mining and energy industry and there since 1969 head of department in the main administration.

Menzel was from 1974 to 1976 council member of the city ​​of Gelsenkirchen . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1976 to 1990. In parliament he represented the constituency of Gelsenkirchen I from 1976 to 1980 and then until 1990 the constituency of Gelsenkirchen II - Recklinghausen III .
