Heinz Meyer (philologist)

Heinz Meyer (* 1943 in Damme (Dümmer) ) is a German Middle Latin philologist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Osnabrück in 1962 , he studied German , philosophy and Latin philology at the Universities of Bonn and Münster from 1962 to 1968 , where he passed the state examination in German and philosophy in 1968 . From 1969 to 1999 he was a research assistant at the Muenster Collaborative Research Centers 7 (project work: Medieval research on meaning) and 231 (project work: Medieval encyclopedia) and taught in the subjects of German Philology (since 1972) and Middle Latin Philology (since 1996). AfterDoctorate in German studies in 1972 with the dissertation “The numerical algorithms in the Middle Ages. Method and Usage », supervised by Friedrich Ohly , and the habilitation in 1997 for the subject of Middle Latin Philology with the habilitation thesis Die Enzyklopädie des Bartholomäus Anglicus. He has been teaching research on the history of transmission and reception of 'De proprietatibus rerum' as an adjunct professor since 2002 . Since 2000 he has been a member of the SFB 496 Symbolic Communication and Social Value Systems from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution at the University of Münster ; Together with Christel Meier-Staubach , he heads the project B3 Theatrical and Social Communication: Functions of Urban and Court Games in the Late Middle Ages and early modern times .

His main research interests are symbolism, allegory and metaphor in medieval literature, encyclopedic works from the Middle Ages, especially from the 13th century (with edition work) and Latin drama from the early modern period (especially Jesuit theater).
