Heinz Oestmann

Carsten Heinz Oestmann (born January 25, 1950 in Hamburg ; † August 6, 2018 there ) was an Elbe fisherman and environmentalist from Hamburg. In 1985/1986 he was a member of the Green Alternative List Hamburg (GAL) in the Hamburg Parliament .

Oestmann comes from a fishing family from Hamburg-Altenwerder , whose tradition goes back to the 18th century. From his father, who died young , he inherited a fishing trawler named Nordstern .

He became known beyond the borders of the Hanseatic city for his spectacular actions against the demolition of his home village Hamburg-Altenwerder. For 25 years he fought for the existence of the district that had to give way to the port expansion. In the 1970s more than 2,000 people were resettled in the district; Oestmann stayed until 1998 and thus hindered the port expansion plans. Since then he has lived in Hamburg-Finkenwerder , where he ran a restaurant.

Oestmann also became known for his protests against the pollution of the Elbe by chlorinated hydrocarbons dumped by Dow Chemical in the Elbe and the dumping of dilute sulfuric acid by Kronos International in the North Sea.

Oestmann was married and had four children.
