Heinz Paus (born March 3, 1948 in Alstätte ) is a CDU politician and was the incumbent mayor of the city of Paderborn (directly elected for the first time) from 1999 to 2014 .

Life

The son of an innkeeper graduated from 1969 to 1975 in Münster, Tübingen and at the University of Administrative Sciences Speyer , a law -Studies and was after his second state examination in Detmold as a lawyer working. He has been a notary since 1984 and a specialist lawyer for administrative law since 1992 .

In 1999 Heinz Paus was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Carlo Cardinal Furno and invested in the order on May 15, 1999 in Paderborn Cathedral by Bishop Anton Schlembach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy .

On November 4, 2013 he was elected President of the Bonifatiuswerk , a Catholic aid organization.

Paus is married and has two sons.

Political career

In the CDU

Heinz Paus joined the CDU in 1972, was chairman of the Junge Union in Detmold from 1974 to 1977 and chairman of the CDU city association of Detmold from 1978 to 1993. From 1975 to 1984 and from 1994 he was a competent citizen in the city council of Detmold, from 1979 to 1980 a member of the Lippe district council. Since 1982 he has been deputy state chairman of the working group of Christian-Democratic lawyers and deputy chairman of the Federal Committee on Internal Policy of the CDU in Germany.

Landtag mandate

Paus was a member of the ninth , tenth and eleventh state parliaments from May 29, 1980 to September 30, 1999 . He resigned prematurely from the twelfth state parliament on September 30, 1999.

Mayor of Paderborn

In 1999 he was elected the first full-time mayor of Paderborn and replaced Wilhelm Lüke in office. He was re-elected in the 2004 and 2009 mayoral elections.

Paus was 1st Vice President (2004; 2007–2014) and President of the Association of Cities and Towns in North Rhine-Westphalia (2004–2007).

In addition to his work as Mayor of Paderborn, Heinz Paus held a seat on the supervisory board of E.ON Westfalen Weser AG . Under his leadership, the Paderborn public utilities were sold to PESAG AG in 2001 , whose majority shareholder was E.ON Energie AG . In 2003 this merged three regional supply companies, including PESAG AG, to form E.ON Westfalen Weser AG.

Paus came under pressure within the party when the construction of the then " paragon arena ", the planned stadium for the footballers of SC Paderborn 07 , was delayed for many months due to local complaints and finally a construction freeze was obtained, which was legally valid for a long time. The “paragon arena” was officially opened on July 20, 2008.

In March 2013, Paus announced that he would not run again for mayor.
