Michael Dreier (born February 8, 1961 in Paderborn ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was mayor of the North Rhine-Westphalian city ​​of Salzkotten from 2004 to 2014 and has been the mayor of Paderborn since 2014.

Life

Michael Dreier grew up in Anreppen . He attended elementary school in Anreppen and a secondary school in Delbrück . He trained as an electrician with Heinz Brinkmeier in Delbrück and then obtained his technical college entrance qualification in Paderborn . He studied electrical engineering at the Soest University of Applied Sciences at Paderborn University (now South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences ) . He completed his studies with the title of Diplom-Ingenieur (FH) and was then a laboratory engineer at the university for 18 months. From 1989 to 2004 he was department head at Paderborner Elektrizitätswerke und Straßenbahn AG (after 2003 E.ON Westfalen Weser AG). He was also on the advisory board there since 2004.

Michael Dreier is married and has two daughters and one son.

Political career

Salzkotten town hall

From 1994 to 2004 he was a member of the city council of Salzkotten, from 1998 to 2004 1st chairman of the CDU city association and from 1999 to 2004 deputy chairman of the parliamentary group. He has been a member of the Local Political Association of North Rhine-Westphalia, a sub-organization of the CDU, since 2006.

On October 1, 2004, he was elected mayor of Salzkotten to succeed Konrad Rump (CDU). In the mayoral election in 2009 he was confirmed in office with 74.90 percent of the valid votes.
