Heinz Röhr

Heinz Röhr (born May 20, 1931 in Marburg ; † March 5, 2005 in Bad Laasphe / Lahn) was a Protestant theologian , religious educator and religious scholar .

Life

From 1951 to 1956 he studied history and philosophy of religion, theology , philosophy , political science , musicology and classical philology in his hometown with Friedrich Heiler , Georg Wünsch , Wolfgang Abendroth and others.

In 1956 he married Christel Kuhli, with whom he had their daughter Esther in 1959 - the year he received his doctorate .

After the teaching examinations required for the teaching profession, he worked as a student councilor in Bad Arolsen from 1958 and moved with his family to Frankfurt am Main in 1965 to join the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University as senior student councilor . In 1972 he was professor of religious and church history there. He held this position until his retirement in 1996.

In addition, he was involved as a religious socialist , but also in the Bund für Free Christianity and, since 1979, as a Quaker in the "Religious Society of Friends" - a community he had known since 1946.

His research focused on mysticism , religious socialism and the understanding of other religions - including interreligious dialogue .
