Heinz Salomon

Heinz Salomon (born May 18, 1900 in Ribnitz , † October 18, 1969 in Kiel ) was a German politician ( SPD ). He was brought to the Theresienstadt concentration camp in the last transport with Jews from Schleswig-Holstein on February 14, 1945, and from there he was the first Jew to return to the city of Kiel after the Second World War .

Life

Salomon enrolled in May 1919 to study dentistry at the University of Rostock , but then embarked on a commercial career. In 1946 he was a member of the first appointed Landtag of Schleswig-Holstein (People's Education Committee) and, from 1947, of the Central Committee of Liberated Jews in the British Zone . In 1950, as part of his campaign for compensation for the Jews, he was involved in transferring claims to Jewish property in the British zone that were not claimed by owners or heirs to the Jewish Trust Corporation . In 1956 he campaigned for the preservation of the Association of Jewish Communities in Northwest Germany in order to have a better negotiating position for further negotiations on reparations to the communities.

Honors

Heinz Salomon was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class, by the Federal President in 1960 .
