Heinz Schmitt (born October 15, 1951 in Karlsruhe ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Heinz Schmitt grew up as the second of three children in Berg (Palatinate) . His father was a company electrician at Siemens in Karlsruhe. Schmitt attended the Otto Hahn Gymnasium in Landau . He studied industrial engineering at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences . After graduating with a degree in industrial engineering, he worked in production planning and production control in a semiconductor factory .

Heinz Schmitt lives in Landau in the Palatinate , has been married since 1980 and has two daughters.

Political party

Schmitt joined the SPD in 1969. Heinz Schmitt began his political career as a local politician in the Berg municipal council and in the Hagenbach municipality council . From 1994 to 2010 Heinz Schmitt was chairman of the SPD sub-district of Südpfalz , from 1994 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag. Since May 2014 he has been a member of the city ​​council of Landau in the Palatinate.
