Heinzelin of Constance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinzelin von Konstanz (also: Heinzelein von Konstanz or Heinzelin von Constanz ; * in the 13th century; † 1st half of the 14th century) was a poet at the end of the 13th century.

Life

Heinzelin was the kitchen master of Count Albrecht II of Hohenberg (1235–1298), also known as a minstrel . Heinzelin became known for his spiritual and secular controversial poems, especially at the Bishop's court in Constance .

If Heinzelin was once ascribed the authorship of Der Minneehre ( Minnelehre ), in 1935 Käthe Mertens documented the existence of Johann von Konstanz, named in just one manuscript, in her monograph on Minnelehre and added further theses to the author's question. Today it is certain that Heinzelin von Konstanz and Johann von Konstanz are not identical.

The two texts, which can still be attributed to Heinzelin, belong to the genre of controversy: Von dem Ritter und Von dem Pfaffen deals with the advantages of the two named classes, which are brought to light by their representatives; the poem Von den two Sanct Joansen depicts the dispute between the Baptist and the Evangelist John in the form of a vision .

Pfeiffer erroneously published the Minnelehre together with the two disputes, but this is the latest edition of Heinzelin's two texts: Heinzelein von Konstanz (Leipzig 1852).
