history

On June 24, 1893, Carl Heinrich Rose founded the drugstore and herbalist “Carl H. Rose & Co.” in the Hamburg district of Barmbek at Bachstrasse 155. Hermann Laue (* 1879, † April 16, 1954) came to Hamburg and was named Apprentice hired. On November 25, 1904, he was appointed authorized signatory of the company. Hermann Laue took over the company on May 13, 1905 and changed the company to "Hermann Laue" on August 16, 1906. This year the first company logo was created. The purpose of the company was stated on November 26th as "trading in spices".

After the First World War , the Hamburg “Deputation for Trade, Shipping and Commerce” granted the Hermann Laue company “Permission to trade in whole and ground spices, spice salts, salted intestines, dry intestines, gelatine, preservation salts and other products on January 3, 1919 the slaughtering trade in question for the Reich territory ”. In 1928 the Hermann Laues business was relocated to Kampstrasse 22, in the Schanzenviertel in the direct vicinity of the slaughterhouse.

After the Second World War , Hermann Laue resumed operations in 1946 with three employees. Kurt Laue joined his father's company in 1949 with his brother Rudolf. Hermann Laue gradually hired more employees (1951 number of employees: 17) and began to modernize the company and build up a machine park as well as a field service organization for the butcher's trade and the meat industry . The sales orientation also changed: The focus was now no longer on buying, selling, cleaning and refining spices, but on the introduction of mixed spices (spice mixtures) and auxiliary materials for meat and sausage production.

In 1960 Kurt Laue had the idea of making sachets for salting , sweetening and seasoning . Customers were international airlines, initially Lufthansa . The program has been expanded over the years and also extended to catering. In 1963, the company set up production facilities for the production of spicy ketchup in the varieties curry spicy, shashlik and tomato.

The company expanded in the following years with branches in Austria (1976), Switzerland (1976), Singapore (1978) and Canada (1980). In 1981 a coating line was installed and the production of coated spices started. In this production technology, salts and spices are coated to prevent them from seeping out. Three years later, the company developed spice oils for seasoning and marinating meat in a single operation.

In 1987 another branch was established in France . From 1989 to 1991 the headquarters were relocated from Hamburg to Ahrensburg. Then the range of Italian, Mexican and Asian spice blends was greatly expanded. The company acquired a stake in Thissen in the Netherlands. The company continues to expand abroad. For this purpose, a joint venture company was founded in Jinan (People's Republic of China) in 1995 and a branch was established in Beijing (People's Republic of China) in 1999 . The Jinan plant opened on June 6, 2004. Another joint venture was established in Chile in 2000 . In 2008 the new technical center in Ahrensburg was inaugurated.
