Helena is a former city in Phillips County in the US state of Arkansas , United States . In 2000 Helena had 6,323 inhabitants. It forms the eastern part of the city of Helena-West Helena , which was formed on January 1, 2006 by merging with the city of West Helena . Until then, Helena County was the seat of Phillips County.

Helena is located in the east of the state on the Mississippi River , which forms the border with the neighboring state of Mississippi . Helena's geographic coordinates are 34 ° 32 ' N , 90 ° 36' W (34.526223, −90.601377).

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Helena lived in 6,323 people. The population density was 274.3 people per km 2 . There were 2,710 housing units, an average of 117.6 per km 2 . The population consisted of 30.59% of whites , 67.93% Black or African American , 0.13% Native American , 0.60% Asian , 0.13% Pacific Islander , 0.60% said other races to belong and 0.17% named two or more races. 0.59% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
