Helene Dolberg (born June 19, 1881 in Barkow ; † May 16, 1979 in Hildesheim ) was a German painter.

Life

Marienkirche Plau am See

Helene Dolberg was born as the fourth child of Barkow pastor Friedrich Dolberg (1842–1920) and his wife in the parsonage there since 1875 and enjoyed her carefree childhood in the parsonage. At the suggestion of the painter Hans Licht (1876–1935), who was a friend of her father , she attended the school for women painters in Berlin-Schlachtensee ; the art academies were still closed to women at the time. She then went to a private school in Hellenthal in the Eifel as a teacher for drawing and singing. Some landscape pictures have already been taken here.
Another station was Helene Dolberg in the Altmark , then she moved to Rostock in 1920where the widowed father lived. A large number of cityscapes were created here. When women in the arts were also given the opportunity to attend academies in the Weimar Republic , after the death of her father, whom she last looked after, Helene Dolberg went to study in Leipzig from 1924 to 1927 - by then she was over 40 years old. Then she trained as an organist in Schwerin and in 1930 took the office of organist in Malchow . Making music and painting now determined her life. At the age of 65, Helene Dolberg moved back to Rostock in 1946, but became increasingly lonely there after her sister's death. In 1954 she moved to the other sister in Hildesheim. There, too, the focus was on painting - mainly landscapes and cityscapes. The artist died at the age of almost 98. Above her life was the Bible verse: "You have been faithful with a little, I want to set you over much."

Achievements / appreciation

Helene Dolberg's work shows a quiet modesty, characterized by a high level of observation and attention to detail.

At the beginning of 2007, the Rostock Cultural History Museum, which owns some of her pictures, dedicated an exhibition to the artist.

From May to November 2012 an exhibition in the Gutshaus Barkow showed works by Helene Dolberg in her birthplace Barkow near Plau am See.
