Helene Schoettle

Helene Schoettle (born April 19, 1903 as Helene Oßwald in Münster near Stuttgart , † August 24, 1994 in Stuttgart) was a German local politician. From 1951 to 1975 she was a member of the Stuttgart municipal council for the SPD .

Life

Schoettle comes from a social democratic family and founded the workers' youth association Münster in 1919 (in today's district of Stuttgart-Münster ). In 1925 she married Erwin Schoettle , who later became a member of the Bundestag for the SPD. In 1928 their daughter Doris was born. Both fled to Switzerland in 1933 and to England in 1939. After the war, she built a network of sewing rooms in Stuttgart for the workers' welfare organization. Helene Schoettle was a member of the Stuttgart municipal council for the SPD from 1951 to 1975. Her topics were child and senior policy. Helene Schoettle was a member of the board of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt from 1947 to 1973 and was co-founder of the association Lebenshilfe for the mentally handicapped in 1960 . Helene Schoettle is buried with her husband in Department 20b at the Stuttgart Forest Cemetery.

In 1983 she received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class, and in 1993 the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg . She was also the godmother of the Heslacher Tunnel . A school for the mentally handicapped in Stuttgart has been named after her since 2007. The Helene Schoettle relay in Stuttgart-Süd is also named after her.
