Helfrich Dern
Helfrich Dern (born May 25, 1891 in Marburg , † 1918 in France ) was a German painter and draftsman .
Life
Helferich Dern was the son of a long -established family of tanners . He studied at the Kunsthochschule Kassel and first completed his studies with the drawing teacher examination. He then became a master student with Carl Holzapfel . Dern made the acquaintance of Otto Ubbelohde , of whom he made a portrait. Ubbelohde had a lasting influence on the young Dern's drawings. Dern volunteered as a volunteer in World War I. In October 1914 he was interned as a prisoner of war on Belle-Île in France . In Belle-Ile numerous drawings were made about everyday life in the prison camp. Dern died in 1918 as a prisoner of war.
The musician Anneliese Druckses-Dern is Helfrich Dern's niece .

Dern painted Hessian landscapes, especially around Marburg. He worked in oils and created numerous watercolors . Many of his drawings are spontaneous snapshots that capture a sequence of movements.
