Children's College Neuwied

The Children's College in Neuwied is an extracurricular support facility for gifted children. In weekend courses, children receive intellectual and emotional offers in addition to school and kindergarten. Currently (2013) the Children's College offers around 80 courses with around 40 employees, which are attended every six months by 600 to 800 course participants between the ages of three and 16 every 14 days (always on Saturdays).

The main focus of the work is the early support of gifted kindergarten children and young school children with learning opportunities in the areas of language, science, mathematics, letters and numbers, English, handicrafts, theater, art, cooking, electrical engineering and biology. Schoolchildren up to the age of 16 are offered a range of different courses in the college that cover the spectrum of mathematics and science, (foreign) language, humanities and social sciences. The children's college is financed - in addition to funding from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and donations - mainly through parental contributions for the support courses. Scholarships are offered for gifted children from socially disadvantaged families. In 2011, the Neuwied Children's College was awarded the “Selected Location 2011” prize in the “ 365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas ” competition, which is carried out by the “Germany - Land of Ideas” initiative in cooperation with Deutsche Bank .
