Helge André Njåstad (born June 5, 1980 in Bergen ) is a Norwegian politician of the right-wing Fremskrittspartiet (FrP). He has been a member of parliament in Storting since 2013 .

Life

In 1999 Njåstad graduated from Bergen Commercial High School. He then worked in sales at Austevoll Forlag until 2003 . From 1999 to 2013 he was a member of the local parliament of Austevoll , from 2003 he served as mayor of the municipality. At the age of 23 he was Norway's youngest mayor at the time. In addition, between 2003 and 2013, Njåstad was a member of the Fylkesting in what was then the province of Hordaland .

Storting MP

Njåstad moved into the Norwegian national parliament in Storting for the first time in the 2013 general election . There he represents the constituency of Hordaland and he became a member of the local and administrative committee, where he was elected chairman.

After the 2017 election , he moved to the finance committee, where he served as second deputy chairman. In January 2019, he was transferred to the Labor and Social Committee during the current legislative period, and in January 2020 he finally became a member of the Municipal and Administrative Committee again. From October 2017 to January 2019, Njåstad was also deputy head of the FrP group in Storting.

Resignation from internal party positions

In January 2019, Helge André Njåstad withdrew from all positions within the party. He gave private reasons as the cause. Previously, however, he was criticized for having published confidential information about a MeToo case in the party. In addition, it became known that he made several shorter appointments so that he would get reimbursed for travel expenses, but in this context he met with friends and family.
