The Hahn company or the Emil Hahn bicycle dealer was a wholesaler and manufacturer of bicycles in Backnang , Baden-Württemberg .

history

The company was founded between 1887 and 1888 by Christian Hahn as a retail business. Later references always refer to 1888 as the year of foundation. There are also documents from 1869 that mention an E. Hahnsche Velocipedes , but it can be ruled out that this is associated with the company described here.

The business content in the first years was the distribution of household items. However, bicycles were also offered quite early on. With the entry of the son and later namesake of the company, Emil Hahn, this business area was increasingly expanded.

From 1919 the company was called "Emil Hahn". At this point the trade in bicycles had already come into focus. From 1924, in particular, the company mainly operated as a bicycle wholesaler.

In this role Hahn bought up various brand names and from then on also had bicycles produced.

After the Second World War , the company recovered and continued selling and producing bicycles.

Increasing international competition and the associated pressure on prices ultimately ensured that the last Hahn brand bicycle was built in 1996.
