The ROSE Bikes GmbH (formerly Rose Versand GmbH ) is a German bicycle manufacturer and mail order company from the Münsterland Bocholt in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The own brand Cia Battino of Rose was sold in the 1990s. The lugged racing bike frames were made for Rose in Italy.

The family business was founded in 1907 by Heinrich Rose as a bicycle shop in Bocholt. In 1932 Heinrich Rose jun. Took over. started the business and earned his living with bicycles in summer and with Dürkopp sewing machines in winter . Erwin Rose led the company in the early 1980s and was one of the first Europeans to import Japanese bicycles. During this time the mail order business started, the first catalog appeared in 1982. A new, large mail order warehouse was set up in 1994. In the same year Rose introduced the Canadian bicycle brand “Red Bull” in Germany. Rose's mail-order catalog, which appears in three languages, is considered a reference work for bicycle enthusiasts; in 2009, the circulation was 600,000. In 2005 the bike shop "Biketown" was opened in Bocholt. The bicycles have been self-assembled since 2011 and sold under the brand name ROSE. In May 2012, a major fire in a ROSE warehouse in Bocholt caused damage of several million euros, as a result of which the logistics and shipping center was expanded. In October 2014 Rose opened a “concept store” in the Mona shopping center in Munich , where customers can virtually put together their dream bike.

In May 2014, ROSE Bikes published the study “Cycling in Germany 2014”.

In January 2015, the ROSE Bikes "concept store " in Munich won the Stores of the year award from the German trade association in the Out of Line category. In addition, Rose was nominated at the World Retail Awards 2015, but could not prevail against the competition here.

In October 2015, ROSE Bikes and Rose Biketown Munich won the Iconic Award 2015 architecture and design competition in the "Best of Best" category.

At the beginning of 2017, Biketown Bocholt was able to convince both nationally and internationally and, in addition to the Stores of the year Award in the Out of Line category, also won the international EuroShop RetailDesign Award.

In May 2019, ROSE Bikes took over the Essen digital agency Kommerz - the Frontend Company.

Catalog

The first ROSE catalog appeared in 1982. The mail order catalog, which appeared in three languages, covered the entire ROSE range and was considered a reference work for bicycle enthusiasts. In 2009 the circulation was 600,000 copies. Customers could find and order the entire range of bicycles , spare parts and cycling clothing on up to 1,000 catalog pages. The last edition of the semi-annual ROSE catalog was published in 2014.

The 2013/14 catalog was replaced by an annual bike catalog in which the latest ROSE bikes of the season were presented. This was published for the last time in 2017.

The customer magazine CYCLE STORIES has been published three times a year since 2014 with all the important new products, background stories and news about cycling .

Products

The ROSE bicycles are assembled in Germany by hand and individually according to customer requirements. Racing bikes , mountain bikes , trekking bikes , touring bikes , leisure bikes and electric bikes are on offer . In addition to ROSE's own brand of technical clothing, spare parts and cycling clothing, the company also sells items from well-known cycling brands in the ROSE Internet shop, which is shipped worldwide, as well as in the ROSE stores in Bocholt , Munich and in the Dodenhof sports world in Posthausen .
