The Riese und Müller GmbH is a German premium bicycle manufacturer specializing in e-bikes, cargo bikes and folding bikes, with headquarters and manufacturing facility in Mühltal . The company was founded in 1993 by Markus Riese and Heiko Müller as a garage company. As of 2017, Riese und Müller sells 30,000 bicycles annually worldwide.

Company history

The first bicycle model on the market was the full-suspension folding bike Birdy , for the prototype of which the manufacturers received the "Hessian Innovation Prize" from the "Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft" in Wiesbaden in 1993. Within a very short time, the Birdy developed into a best seller and is now sold in more than 30 countries worldwide.

Based on this success, a wide range of models with many innovative bicycle concepts has emerged over the course of time. Inspired by the mountain bike boom of the 1990s, the first full-suspension comfort bike series was created in 1997 with the Avenue and Culture models and, a year later, the Delite. The full suspension is of giant and Mueller under the name Control Technology marketed .

From the 2009 model year, Riese und Müller built bicycles supported by electric motors for the first time, which were then sold under the equipment name hybrid . Since 2012, the company's focus has been on innovative e-bikes (pedelecs), cargo bikes and folding bikes. The Birdy folding bike is the only Riese and Müller bike today without an electric motor.

Riese und Müller currently only uses Bosch mid-mounted motors. In 2016, the second brand blueLABEL, which sold e-bikes without full suspension Control Technology , was integrated into the core brand Riese and Müller.

Company profile

The development, assembly, production and delivery of all bicycles for the global market take place at the company's headquarters in Mühltal. Sales are carried out exclusively through local retailers, which are also responsible for repairs and service. Until spring 2019, the headquarters of Riese and Müller were in Weiterstadt , the new headquarters in Mühltal was opened in May 2019.

Models

E-bikes

Riese und Müller offers both pedelecs (pedal assistance up to 25 km / h) and S-Pedelecs (pedal assistance up to 45 km / h) in numerous model and gear variants. The product range extends from sporty mountain bikes to comfortable everyday bikes. Many models have full suspension.

E-cargo bikes

These are cargo bikes and pedelecs at the same time. The loading areas can be equipped with side walls, boxes, boxes with child seats and other accessories. The Bosch motors provide pedal assistance for the basic models up to 25 km / h and for the HS models up to 45 km / h.

The folding bike system

The folding mechanism of the Riese und Müller folding bike Birdy differs from classic folding bikes. The suspension pivot points also serve as pivot points for folding. There is no folding joint in the frame, which has a positive effect on the driving characteristics. The Birdy models are the only folding bikes of their kind on the market.
