Heliamphora tatei is a plant of the genus heliamphora ( Heliamphora ) from the family of Pitcher plants (Sarraceniaceae). This precarnivorous plant thrives on the Tepuis , the table mountains of South America .

description

Heliamphora tatei is a perennial herbaceous plant . The height of growth of H. tatei are described quite differently: Barthlott et al. indicate a maximum height of 4 m, especially for exposed locations. This unusually high height for Heliamphora species is due to the habit. While all other Heliamphora species form native rosettes, Heliamphora tatei is characterized by branched , shrub-like growth. At the end of the respective branches are the leaves arranged in rosettes, which represent the traps . These become up to 40 cm long, are initially lush green and gradually change color to red-beige tones.

The flowers are arranged in a racemose inflorescence on up to 50 cm long inflorescence shafts. The flowers are white after opening, but later turn red.

Systematics

Heliamphora tatei was first described by Henry Gleason in 1931 .

There are varieties and forms of Heliamphora files known and described, some authors also see separate species:

  • Heliamphora file Gleason var. File
  • Heliamphora file f. macdonaldae ( Gleason ) Steyerm.
  • Heliamphora tatei var. Neblinae ( Maguire ) Steyerm.
  • Heliamphora tatei var. Neblinae f. parva ( Maguire ) Steyerm.

distribution and habitat

Heliamphora tatei forms relatively large stocks in so-called white sand savannas. Like all Heliamphora species, it lives on the Tepuis , the table mountains of South America . It grows in the south of Venezuela and in Guyana , only the variety Heliamphora tatei var. Neblinae occurs on the mountain Pico da Neblina , over which the border between Venezuela and Brazil runs, with which Heliamphora tatei can also be found in the extreme north of Brazil. Occasionally it grows together with the carnivore Brocchinia reducta .
