Heliswiss (officially: Heliswiss, Schweizerische Helicopter AG ) was a Swiss helicopter operator based at Bern-Belp Airport in the municipality of Belp . In 2012 the entire capital was transferred to Swiss Helicopter AG , based in Chur .

history

Heliswiss, the oldest helicopter operator in Switzerland , was founded on April 17th, 1953. This was the beginning of helicopter flying in Switzerland. In the following years, a comprehensive network with various helicopter bases was built across Switzerland: Bern-Belp Airport , Samedan GR , Domat / Ems GR , Aeroporto Cantonale di Locarno , Erstfeld UR , Gampel VS , Gstaad BE and Gruyères FR .

Until the Swiss Air Rescue Service (now REGA) had set up its own helicopter network, Heliswiss had flown many rescue missions on their behalf. Heliswiss also flew its missions abroad, for example in Greenland , Suriname , North Africa and in the primeval forests of South America.

Heliswiss' first helicopter was a Bell 47 G-1. Registered in the aviation register as HB-XAG on September 23, 1953, it began flight operations on October 9, 1953. From 1963, in addition to the previously used small helicopters, large Agusta Bell 204B helicopters with an engine output of 1050 hp and a payload of up to 1500 kg were used. The first Bell 214 followed in 1979 with a load capacity of up to 2.8 t. From 1991 the Russian Kamov KA-32A12 was used.

In July 2012, Heliswiss merged with Air Grischa, Bohag, Eliticino, Heli Gotthard and Rhein Heli to form the new Swiss Helicopter AG.
