Heller Tools is a tool manufacturer from Dinklage in Lower Saxony , which emerged from Gebrüder Heller KG, an international company that developed and produced deep drilling tools and was also Germany's largest wood drill and pliers factory .
history
Jacob Heller (1583) was a drill smith from Schmalkalden . He was the first to get permission to make drills. The company was founded in 1849 in Schmalkalden, Thuringia, by his descendant, the drill smith Joh. Georg Heller. After his sons took over the company, it was renamed the Heller brothers.
Heller developed the first carbide-tipped single-lip drill and launched it on the market in 1927. This patented tool is the model for all deep drilling tools still used today. Together with the companies Friedrich Krupp AG and Osram , they developed the manufacture of hard metal tools as a world first in 1931. Their anchor drills and bells were known worldwide. In the 1930s , 750 employees worked for the company, later even more than 1000.
Further development
Like many other companies, the Heller brothers' company was nationalized in the Soviet occupation zone after the Second World War . The former owners therefore moved to Bremen and founded a new plant there.
Development in Schmalkalden
After the expropriation , it was converted into the United Schmalkalder Metallwerke - state-owned company in 1947 . This was later merged with other state- owned companies to form the VEB Ankerwerk . In 1956 the merger with the VEB Universalwerk Schmalkalden took place to form the “VEB tool and cutlery factory”. In 1969 the company was merged with another combine to form the VEB Tool Combination Schmalkalden .
After the fall of the Wall , the metal works were divided into several smaller operations.
Development in Bremen and Dinklage
After the end of the Second World War and the expropriation, the company was relocated to Bremen by its former owners and the company was the dominant founding member of the BTA . In 1977 the company Gebrüder Heller Dinklage was founded, the product range there now no longer included deep drilling tools. The company location in Bremen was closed. From 2003 to 2014 the Heller Dinklage brothers belonged to Illinois Tool Works Inc. (ITW), Glenview , USA . From May 2014 Heller will be part of the Serafin group of companies . The company will continue to operate as an independent company under the name Heller Tools GmbH. ITW Heller products have won the RedDot Award and the iF Award several times .
