The helmet peak is a 930 m high mountain in Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises as the highest point of the Relay Hills at the southern end of the Fallières coast .
The United States Navy took aerial photographs of this area in 1966 . The British Antarctic Survey carried out surveys between 1970 and 1973. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1977 after the helmet wind in the Pennines in Northern England .
