Helmar Becker-Berke

Helmar Becker-Berke (born August 4, 1906 in Bonn ; † January 6, 1980 in Stuttgart ; actually Helmar Heinrich Manfred Becker ) was a German painter, draftsman, graphic artist and illustrator.

Life

Becker-Berke came from the Becker family of painters . He was the son of the painter Hans-Josef Becker-Leber and the painter Sophia Becker-Leber . His grandfather was the painter and engraver Carl Leonhard Becker . His cousin was the federal judge Maria Elisabeth Geyser .

Becker-Berke received his training at the Berlin-Charlottenburg School of Arts and Crafts. From 1925 he worked as a freelance painter and draftsman in Berlin, and in 1928 worked for Ullstein Verlag . Born Helmar Becker, he adopted the stage name Becker-Berke using the maiden name of his grandmother Franziska Berke. During the Second World War he was a war draftsman for propaganda, after he had previously designed some propaganda posters and made illustrations for the German Labor Front . After 1945 he was a press illustrator in Stuttgart and picture editor.

Becker-Berke created animal drawings, posters and numerous books.
