Helmut Adam
Helmut Adam (* 1973 in Switzerland ) is a German entrepreneur, non-fiction author, publisher of the magazine Mixology - magazine for bar culture and the specialist magazine Bier, Bars & Brauer.
Life
After studying in Mainz , Helmut Adam initially worked as an employed bartender and later as a bar manager in Vienna , London , Zurich and Berlin . Together with his colleague Jens Hasenbein, he founded Mixology in 2002 , a magazine for bartenders, restaurateurs , bar visitors and the spirits industry in German-speaking countries, the first edition of which appeared in 2003. Helmut Adam was editor-in-chief until 2007 and still acts as publisher today (as of early 2020). He also ran his own bar in Berlin with his partner Hasenbein in 2004 and 2005. Even though Hasenbein was voted Gault Millau Barkeeper of the Year at this time , the salt bar was not commercially successful.
In 2007 Helmut Adam, also with Jens Hasenbein and the Mixology employee at the time, Bastian Heuser, organized the Bar Convent Berlin (BCB) for the first time , a mixture of trade fair and symposium for the bar and spirits industry. The BCB has taken place annually since then and, according to the organizers, recorded almost 10,000 visitors in 2014. In 2015 Bar Convent GmbH was sold to Reed Exhibitions and has been part of the British media group RELX Group ever since
In the early years, Mixology-Verlag traded as Adam / Hasenbein GbR and in 2010 was transferred to several companies in which Helmut Adam was involved and which he managed as one of the managing directors: Mixology Verlag GmbH for publications and Bar Convent GmbH as trade fair organizer, which appeared together with the online shop Cocktailian under the umbrella brand Berlin Beverage Group . The online shop was closed in early 2019. At the end of 2019, Adam and Hasenbein sold the publisher and the associated brands (except Cocktailian , which has since been continued as a book brand ) to Meininger Verlag .
Publications
Together with Jens Hasenbein and in some cases other co-authors, Helmut Adam has published a number of non-fiction books, including several mixed books for end users by Verlag Gräfe und Unzer and, in 2010, the Bar-Handbuch Cocktailian by Verlag Tre Torri , which was followed by a second volume on rum and cachaça in 2011 and in 2014 an edition on beer and craft beer followed. Adam is also co-editor of the Mixology Bar Guide , a directory of the German bar landscape, which has been published annually since 2011 .
