Helmut Barthel (born July 22, 1953 in Döbeln ) is a German politician ( SPD) and has been a member of the Brandenburg state parliament since 2014 .

After graduating from high school, Helmut Barthel studied chemistry at the University of Leipzig from 1971 to 1975, where he graduated as a professor of chemistry and biology. Then he worked in his profession. After the reunification , he switched to marketing and communication after further training, with his own agency since 1992.

Barthel has been a member of the community council of Großbeeren and the district council of the Teltow-Fläming district since 2009 . From 2014 to 2019 he was chairman of the SPD district parliamentary group.

In the state elections in Brandenburg in 2014 and 2019 , he won the direct mandate in constituency 23 (Teltow-Fläming I) .
