Helmut Elfenkämper

Helmut Elfenkämper (born December 29, 1947 in Rheine ) is a German diplomat .

Life

After graduating from high school , Elfenkämper studied law , history , French language and literature from 1967 to 1974 and then joined the Foreign Service in 1975 . After completing his training as an attaché , he was Second Secretary in the Economic Department at the Embassy in Poland between 1977 and 1980 and then First Secretary at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York City . This was followed from 1983 to 1986 use in the Unit for the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) in the Foreign Office and then as an exchange official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France under the German-French official exchange.

After completion of the exchange Elfenkämper was 1987-1990 Counselor of the Political Section at the Embassy in France and then Deputy Head of Unit for Central and Eastern Europe in the Foreign Office before he was the ambassador in Portugal from 1993 to 1997 Permanent Representative.

He then returned to the Federal Foreign Office, where he was deputy head of the planning team until 2000 and then permanent representative of the ambassador to France from 2000 to 2005. He was then ambassador to the Czech Republic between 2005 and 2009 .

From September 15, 2009 to October 31, 2013, Helmut Elfenkämper was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Portugal . Ulrich Brandenburg was his successor .
