Johannes Haindl

Johannes K. Haindl (* 1956 in Munich ) is a German journalist and diplomat . He has been the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Hungary since July 2020 .

Life

After High School Haindl studied 1976-1980 jurisprudence and laid in 1980 the first state examination and after preparatory service 1983 Second State Exam from. He then worked as a journalist for Bayerischer Rundfunk , before joining the Foreign Service in 1987 and, after completing his attaché training, in 1988 he was employed in the cultural department of the Foreign Office .

In 1989 he worked at the embassy in Yugoslavia and then from 1991 to 1994 in the Parliament and Cabinet Division of the Federal Foreign Office, before working on an official exchange at the US State Department from 1994 to 1995 . He then worked from 1995 to 1998 in the Political Department of the Embassy in the United States and was then Deputy Head of Unit for the Western Balkans Special Staff in the Foreign Office.

In the following years Haindl was head of the Western Balkans department between 2001 and 2004 and then the representative for Southeastern Europe and Turkey in the Foreign Office until 2006 , before he was permanent representative of the ambassador to the United States until 2009.

From September 3, 2009 to 2011 Haindl was Ambassador to the Czech Republic , from 2011 to 2015 the representative of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Political and Security Committee (PSK) of the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union and from July 2015 to July 2019 the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Austria . In July 2020 he took up his post as ambassador to Hungary .

Private life

Haindl is married and has three children.
