Ralf Beste

Ralf Beste (born June 21, 1966 in Witten ) is a German diplomat and journalist . He has been Ambassador to the Republic of Austria since September 2019 .

After graduating from high school in Witten in 1985 and doing military service in Neumünster (1985/86), Ralf studied best history in Bochum, Bielefeld and Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He has a master's in history from the University of Bielefeld (1991) and a Master of Arts of the Johns Hopkins University (1990).

After completing his studies, Beste completed a traineeship at Ruhr Nachrichten in Dortmund , where he then worked as a local editor in Castrop-Rauxel . In 1994 he switched to the Ministry of Finance of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in Mainz as press spokesman . From 1996 to 2000 he worked for the Berliner Zeitung as a parliamentary correspondent , first in Bonn and from 1999 after the government moved to Berlin . In 2001 he moved to the capital office of SPIEGEL , for which he reported for 13 years, primarily on foreign and security policy and the Bündnis90 / Die Grünen party .

In 2014 Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier brought him to the Foreign Office as deputy head of the planning team . There he was involved in the 2014 Review of German Foreign Policy. In 2016, Beste moved to the newly created "Strategic Communication" department as a representative. In 2017 he became the best head of the planning staff.

In the summer of 2019, he moved to the German Embassy in Austria as head and was received by the Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen on September 18, 2019 to present his credentials.

Ralf Beste is married and has two children. He is a member of BV Borussia Dortmund .
