Volkmar Wenzel

Volkmar Wenzel (born February 14, 1955 in Goldbach ) is a German diplomat .

Life

After graduating from high school , Wenzel did his community service from 1974 to 1976 and then studied political science and economics until 1983 . In 1984 he joined the Foreign Service and after completing his training as an attaché in 1986 he was employed at the embassy in Sudan and then from 1988 to 1991 at the embassy in France . After working in the Foreign Office , he worked at the Embassy in Egypt between 1994 and 1998 and was then Deputy Head of Department at the Foreign Office until 2002 . After being Head of Division in the Foreign Office from 2002 to 2005, he became Ambassador to Syria .

From summer 2008 to 2011 Volkmar Wenzel was ambassador to Saudi Arabia . From August 2011 to February 2012 he was Commissioner for Global Issues at the Federal Foreign Office and from February 2012 Personal Commissioner of the Federal Minister for the Arab World. From 2014 to 2017 he was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Morocco . He then became ambassador to Hungary , where he was replaced by Johannes Haindl in mid-2020 .
