Detlev Rünger (born April 29, 1955 in Hanover ) is a German diplomat and has been ambassador to Denmark since September 27, 2019.

Life

After graduating from high school , Rünger studied law from 1974 to 1981 and in 1981, after completing the second state examination in law , began the preparatory service for the higher foreign service . After completing the career test for the higher service in 1983, he found various positions at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn and Berlin and at diplomatic missions of the Federal Republic of Germany.

From 2006 to 2009 he was a lecturer in the First Class Legation and Head of the Foreign Office's Crisis Response Center. His successor as head of the crisis reaction center was Walter Johannes Lindner , the previous ambassador to Kenya . Rünger was in July 2009, succeeding Roland Mauch , who in retirement came, Ambassador to Norway . From 2012 to 2015 he was ambassador to Austria . From 2015 to 2018 Rünger was the German consul general in Atlanta .

Positions

As ambassador to Norway, Rünger spoke out in favor of Norway joining the European Union .
