Roland Mauch

Roland Mauch (born March 12, 1944 in Graudenz , West Prussia ) is a former German diplomat .

Life

After graduating from Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium Ludwigsburg , Mauch began studying law and basic economics at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1963 he became active in the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg . When he was inactive , he moved to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . As part of his legal training, he completed an internship at the European Commission in Brussels in 1969/70 .

After joining the Foreign Service in 1973, he was employed at the Foreign Office in Bonn, at the Consulate General in Johannesburg (permanent representative of the Consul General) and at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva (economic and environmental advisor). From 1979 to 1982 Mauch was the ambassador's permanent representative in Somalia . There he was also a consultant for development cooperation. This was followed by assignments at the Foreign Office in Bonn (advisor for economic issues to the United Nations) and from 1985 at the embassy in the Soviet Union (deputy head of the department for economics and science). In 1988 he became Deputy Head of the “European Political Cooperation” unit at the Federal Foreign Office. As part of this activity, he also took part in the negotiations on the Maastricht Treaty . In 1992 he was employed at the permanent representation to the European Union in Brussels as head of the political department. In 1995 he became head of Division GF 04 (“Economic and Development Issues in the United Nations”) at the Federal Foreign Office. From 2000 to 2002 he was deputy head of the “Economy and Sustainable Development” department (Department 4) at the Federal Foreign Office. From 2002 to August 2005 Mauch was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Morocco . He then headed the German Embassy in Norway until his retirement in 2009 .
