Helmut Frömmel

Helmut Frömmel (born January 30, 1915 in Weifa , Bautzen district , † June 29, 1997 in Berlin ) was a German entrepreneur and managing director of ISIS-Chemie Zwickau .

Life

Helmut Frömmel was born as the only son of Martha and Karl Frömmel and grew up in Pirna-Copitz . He studied chemistry at the Technical University in Dresden , Munich and Prague and completed his academic training with the title Dr. Ing. From.

After the Second World War , he was granted a business license for a pharmaceutical company in Zwickau by the Soviet Military Administration (SMAD) in December 1945 , which formed the starting point for the establishment of ISIS chemistry in this west Saxon city. The purpose of the company was to manufacture and sell chemical and pharmaceutical products.

One of the first products was nitroglycerin (glycerol trinitrate), which was used in high dilution for acute attacks of angina pectoris . This made ISIS-Chemie the first company to receive approval from SMAD after the Second World War to synthesize nitroglycerine , which is also used in explosives ( dynamite ).

From its founding in 1945 until its state-mandated replacement in 1972, he was the sole managing director who represented the company internally and externally. During this time, both the structure and the ownership changed several times.

In 1972 ISIS-Chemie became a state-owned company (VEB ISIS-Chemie) due to state pressure. At that time Frommel took over the management of the company's research department, which he held until the end of 1983. At the age of 68 he retired. During the time of his management activity, a series of construction measures to expand the ISIS chemistry took place. Helmut Frömmel's efforts to retransfer after the reunification of Germany in 1989/90 were unsuccessful. He died in 1997 of complications from a stroke.

Entrepreneurship

ISIS-Chemie Zwickau, founded in 1946, began its economic activity under the direction of Helmut Frömmel with a total of six employees. As a privately owned company, it had to struggle with particular difficulties in the Soviet Zone and later after the founding of the GDR , such as legal regulations or the provision of the necessary resources for the production of resources. The aim of the state was to socialize the company, which he finally succeeded in 1972. During his time as head of the company, a large number of new products were registered in different galenics after glycerol trinitrate : Dormutil, Neoeserin, Ephetussin, Pholedrin, Sedafamen, Mydrum, Pentalong, Disotat, Guanutil, Obsidan and Cerutil.

In 1960, 174 employees achieved a turnover of around 5.3 million marks and a profit of 1 million marks; in 1970, 255 people were employed in ISIS chemistry. The turnover this year was about 24 million and the profit was about 4 million marks. Almost three quarters of the production represented drugs for the therapy of cardiovascular diseases . After reprivatisation and several changes of ownership, the company has been trading under the name PUREN Pharma GmbH & Co. KG since 2017. After 1999 sales rose to around € 100 million.
