Weifa ( Upper Lusatian : Weefe , Upper Sorbian Motydło ) is a village belonging to the municipality of Steinigtwolmsdorf in Saxony . The resort is the highest village in the Bautzen district .

The place was created as a forest hoof village and adapts to the landscape of the Lusatian mountainous region. Typical of the region are the half-timbered houses , which testify to the old hand weaving of the 17th to 19th centuries . The place name is derived from the term "Weife", an accessory used in hand weaving.

history

Weifa was created in the course of the German settlement. A locator brought immigrants here. The town was founded around the 13th century. Flemings are said to have introduced flax growing and weaving here.

It was first mentioned in a document in 1464. From 1606 the ransom from the laborers began . The greatest heyday of weaving was between 1860 and 1890.

Weifa has been a climatic health and recreation center since around 1830. The FDGB holiday service brought thousands of holidaymakers to Weifa every year between 1949 and 1990.

Weifa is located in the Lusatian Mountains on the border with the Bohemian Netherlands ( Czech Republic ), about two kilometers from Steinigtwolmsdorf. To the northeast of Weifa is the Weifaer Höhe (506 m) as one of the highest mountains in this region. Tributaries and ponds flow in a westerly direction and flow into the Wesenitz .

Religions

Weifa is a mainly Protestant-Lutheran village, but does not have its own church.

Club life

In addition to the local youth club, the Weifa homeland and culture club, the tennis club, the “VLG-Racing” autocross club and the volunteer fire brigade also take part in local events. She organizes a Whitsun concert at the Hereditary Court every year. An Easter shooting and village festival are also held annually .
