Helmut Hucke

Helmut Hucke (born March 12, 1927 in Rotenburg an der Fulda ; † November 6, 2003 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ) was a German musicologist and oboist .

life and work

Hucke studied 1947/1948 at the Musikhochschule Freiburg and from 1948 to 1942 at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . Here he did his doctorate with a thesis on the term "antiphon" and the melody of the office antiphons . From 1953 to 1956, Hucke stayed in Rome and Naples on a scholarship from the Görres Society .

In 1957 he became an assistant at the Musicological Institute at the University of Frankfurt am Main . In the same year he became editor of the magazine Musik und Altar .

From 1962 to 1964, Hucke built up the music history department of the German Historical Institute in Rome . In 1967 he completed his habilitation in Frankfurt am Main with the thesis Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. Environment, life, dramatic work . 1969/1970 he was an associate professor at Brandeis University Waltham . He then became a professor at the University of Frankfurt Main.
