Helmut Knauer

Helmut Knauer (born June 1, 1924 in Coburg ; † February 11, 2010 in Würzburg ) was a Bavarian local politician ( SPD ).

Career

After attending secondary school, he was drafted into the army for military service. After the end of the war, he entered the civil service at the Coburg district office in October 1945. Initially he was entrusted with the district treasury and the tax office of the municipalities, in 1952 he was appointed district treasurer. In addition to his job, he completed a distance learning course. In 1970 he was promoted to the senior official.

As the successor to Klaus Groebe , he took over the office of district administrator in the Coburg district on July 1, 1972 and was confirmed in the following two local elections. During his tenure, the Coburg rural hospital was modernized and expanded and the Coburg II secondary school was rebuilt.

In 1984 he refused to be honored with the Federal Cross of Merit on the grounds that the trust placed in him by the population was thanks and recognition enough.

He did not run for the local elections in the spring of 1990 after reaching the age limit. After leaving office on June 30, 1990, he brought his expertise to the neighboring Thuringia in the development of local self-government in the district offices.

Knauer spent his old age in the senior citizens' residential complex on Hubland in Würzburg.
